Quentin Shih

Very pretty, stylized black and white photography. High exposures leave them looking pristine dream like and ephemeral. More works here.

DanUta Bakowska

DanUta Bakowska has some very interesting use of light and colour. Its almost like she used double exposed film, where two images have been overlaid.

Sparkle

Sometimes sparkles make us all happy. We can pretend to be children again and remember the times when we played with sparklers and confetti. It was a simple and pure joy.

Unfortunately I have lost all of the sources to these images.

I especially love the effect used in picture number three, simply amazing, stunning and captures the imagination. A truly engaging image.

Lately my work has been quite "natural", I say natural because they have not been retouched or post edited but it is probably wrong choice of words, but I'll go with it for now. I've been getting to know my new cameras and therefore I felt I had to stay true to the machine, learn how it functions, its strenghths and weaknesses in capturing the world around me.
I used to be very hesitant to post-process my photos using photoshop because i felt like I was creating something unreal and fake. I stopped thinking like that for a while and was happy to edit, change and create moods but I've always been drawn to capturing the rawness of everyday life. I am still exploring my "style" and don't want to yet label myself as this or that, but I guess in a way I've always been drawn to photojournalism, the story telling through imagery and essence of people and life. Haunting images of war, devastation and natural disasters, as well as mesmerising images of never before seen places and people found in National Geographic. However now that I've gotten to know my camera a little better i thinkj i will start exploring photoshop again see where it takes me.

here are some wonderful australian photographer dedicated to capturing the australian experience.

Images of Aceh after the 2004 earthquake and consequential tsunami. There are a lot of confronting images. however, horrifying the images may be they are a powerful tool in bringing awereness and light into a peoples suffering, as well as documenting this tragedy in order to remind those far removed. they remind people about compassion, humanity, fragility, sorrow, hope. we forget in our safe cocooned world of technology and luxury that there are human casualties and that it is not some far away problem and that we too can help and contribute. If only simply feeling compassion and feeling grateful and fortunate for the lives we live.

Robert Doisneau

I mentioned Robert Doisneau, in yesterdays post and decided to feature this beloved man.

Playful, and expertly captured, excellent timing with a eye for detail. A patience, and the love of people watching, waiting to capture these lovely, surprising and fun moments that occur around us every day. He noticed them and forever immortalized them with his camera. Wonderful.

sky water sand

I took these shots at a local beach whilst strolling with my lover. I especially love the one of the teenager jumping of the peer, it must have been spontaneous for the were in their underwear, how youthful.
However it took me a long time to get the courage to take the shot, and i would have got some very awesome and exciting shots had i gotten the courage earlier. I wish I can just take a snap of people I see randomly, there are so many moments where I've wanted to take a photo of someone but have been too afraid of the repercussions. I have this image that the person would stroll up to me  grab my camera and throw it on the ground or worse ask me to delete the image because they thought it was horrible. I received a beautiful book for my birthday of Robert Doisneau, he took photographs of Paris for 30 years and it was fascinating. He took playful photographs of people walking, sitting and doing daily things, but mostly they were observational photographs of a moment that is special. A moment in time, a special angle, two things align and create something special and truly unique. I hope I get there.
