Penny Davenport

These remind me of when you begin drawing without knowing what its going to be but eventually a shape emerges and it starts to make sense. Her blog.

I like this drawing style a lot. The control, detail, precision and colour choices.

Lawerence Yang

Lawerence Yang's paintings remind me of sophisticated versions of the ink drawings we did in pripary school by blowing on blobs of ink with a straw to create patterns. They are just so lovely and intricate.

Mads Freund Brunse

I Mess people up is a visual journal about ultra-violence. I like that it is a book, the images work really well together. The drawing style is interesting, going from a simplified skill set to more detailed finer work. the change in medium (pencil to crayon) evokes some memory of childhood, perhaps he is trying to link childhood up-bringing to how violent we become as adults. Nurture vs. nature?

Drawing with Intent

At uni we were asked to revisit past work and redraw our designs with "intent". I went exploring to find how other people do it. What is it to draw with intent?  an ability to express or show something through drawing, a purpose to the drawing, to evoke emotion, to explain something. I think these are very seductive.

Do it Yourself

I came across this, creative huh? I think I would have done something generic, but these are awesome. You can find the rest here.

Tomer and Asaf Hanuka

So I am totally into comics at the moment. I then remembered about Tomer and Asaf Hanuka, two fantastic illustrators and cartoon artists that I spotted and loved straight away. I really enjoy their bold use of colour and the way they use shadow and light to create an overall emotion. Their works are dramatic and confronting in content but no matter the subject you cannot help but stare in awe at their artwork even if you want to look away. Check out their blog, where they reveal some of their process work, Tomer's website or Asaf's website for some lovely finished works.

They are very talented, with hand drawing skills that are so refined. Going from sketch to final artwrok, shows the extents of their skills and they have really come to a style of their own.
This is where I currently struggle, having my own style. I get influenced from all sorts of places and people and really would like to find my 'niche'. but i guess the more you produce work and explore your own ideas a style will start to emerge on its own. O perhaps the message is, keep drawing/paining/making and it will all become more clear.

Horse Drawn Carriage

Nice use of colour and imagery. Check out Sanya's etsy shop here.
I love her representations of the zodiac signs, i think they have a certain 'circus show'
feel to them which I love, I love the connotations behind the drawns, which i think makes these
images interesting and original.

I like this one because it's called 'from Mars' speaks for it self really.
